Screenwest and the success of WA film and television

The WA film and television industry not only bring our stories to audiences at home and across the world.

The economic impact and jobs generated by the sector provide compelling proof that return for investment in this growth sector should be a priority for government.

The economic impact

In 2019-2020, Screenwest supported productions

  • generated 5167 FTE Jobs
  • generated $383 Million in Total income
  • injected $9.2 Million spending in regional WA, and $51.5 Million overall

Supporting indigenous and diverse employment and voices

In 2019-2020,

  • 57% of key creative roles (producer, director, writer) were filled by Western Australians who identified as Indigenous.
  • 25% of key creative roles (producer, director, writer) were filled by Western Australians who identified as diverse
  • 82% of key creative roles (producer, director, writer) were filled by Western Australians who identified as female.

Telling our stories to the world

Western Australian stories were broadcast to the world with WA content sold for consumption in the UK, Europe, North and South America, and throughout Asia.

In 2019-2020,

  • Screenwest funding enabled 120 hours of screen content
  • Funded 37 projects to commence filming being a feature drama, 3 drama tv series, 7 short form dramas, 8 tv documentary series, 4 documentary tv singles, 2 short form documentaries, 5 documentary features, 1 VR/interactive project, 5 games/interactive projects and 1 post-production digital and visual effects project.
